The right of redemption may be terminated by the tax sale purchaser any time after one year following the tax sale. This foreclosure process is commonly known as "barment" and is the first step in gaining full ownership of the property.

After one year from the sale, the holder of the tax deed can send out notices of barment which can occur after forty-five days from the one year anniversary of the sale. This process includes service of notice on all interested parties and occupants. Additionally notice of barment must be published and recorded in the real estate records.
